Staying Safe During and After a Hurricane From Your AFA EAP

During a hurricane, howling winds, driving rain, and the threat of tornadoes make riding out a hurricane a scary ordeal. Follow these tips for staying safe in your home during and after a hurricane.

Recovery Resources

AFA EAP has compiled resources to help AFA members and our families tackle the recovery phase of a hurricane. Remember, your AFA EAP is available if you would like to confidentially discuss the stresses of this event or any other concern. Call the AFA EAP at 800-424-2406.

Crisis Counseling

Find your local AFA EAP committee members for referrals at 800-424-2406 or afacwa.org. You can also talk to a professional about emotional distress by calling the Disaster Distress Helpline at 1-800-985-5990 or texting “TalkWithUs” to 66746.

Shelter and Relief

Find an open shelter near you by texting SHELTER and your zip code to 4FEMA (43362). Call United Way Helpline at 211 for information on shelters and other forms of assistance.
